Man, I am bummed! I am seriously perturbed by a rather silly little thing. There is this movie which everybody is raving about - Munnabhai-II. I saw this movie a couple of weeks back and hated it. Ok not hated it, but definitely did not like it. It is one those sugar coated feel good movies which are nothing like real life. I watched the movie right after it released and kind of assumed that it will be a flop. But lo behold, everybody and their mother in law are going ga ga over the movie! I mean, people are discussing the movie like its the answer to all their problems. Its a hit and I can barely find anybody else who did not like the movie. I am hearing things like "it changed my outlook to life". Hello? Are we talking about the same movie here?
Now it is not such a big deal of course. But I am very puzzled as to why I did not like this movie. I am a movie buff and I can sit through most crap that would make normal people doze off. And I am a Gandhi fan and Gandhism is the theme of this movie (their portrayal is not quite correct but thats another story). So now I am wondering if I am too cynical to like feel good movies. I think I am an optimist by nature - entrepreneurs have to be to optimistic! I liked some other feel good movies before - Forrest Gump, for example. So what is it about this movie that I couldnt stand it? Its silly but its definitely puzzling me. If you watched the movie and didnt like it, please leave a comment. It will make me feel better! ;-)
UPDATE: OK so I watched it again! And I agree its not such a bad movie after all. Not as good as I had expected it to be based on the first one. But not that bad too! Thanks for the comments. The vociferous support for the movie was one reason I gave it one more chance :)

I don't want to see the sequel because I did not like the first Munnabhai. The comedy was pretty slapstick and dumb, though a few hundred million people thought otherwise.
Is Gump a feel good movie ? Hmmm ...
Well nature is diverse, isn't it :)
Sarat, actually I also liked the first movie. But second movie was just more of the first one taken too far. Or at least that is what I felt. Again, a few hundred million will disagree.
Rajat - inspite of a sad ending, gump was feel good for me because it portrayed success (even if by accident). I guess Gump is my definition of feel good as opposed to a saccharine filled movie in which nothing ever goes wrong!
I haven't seen "LRMB" yet, but in my case, I didn't like, "Raja Hindustani", but it was a hit :) and one more, "KNPH", still It was a huge hit, so mass opinion matters :), even no one in my circle, liked "KANK", but on tv, I am seeing on the ads of movie,"Running successfuly", I am also puzzeled, Why these movies were so successful? :(, So now I believe, it doesn't matter, whether you like a movie or not? Even I liked "PUKAR" of Anil Kapur - Madhuri Dixit, and "SHAKTI" of Sanjay Kapur - Karishma Kapur, But those were not successful. No Idea, What a good movie is all about? :(
Atlast I found someone who did not liked the movie ;). All these days after seeing the movie, I also had same feeling like gaurav. So atlast I have a company....
People are raving about it here in seattle and the theater(if you can call it that) has been packed. In fact, a few of our friends have been recommending the movie and these are people whose opinions I respect. Hoping to see it soon on dvd.
It gives you glimpses of Gandhiji and GANDHIGIRI. There is nothing wrong with the movie. Perhaps what u can question is the person who is playing the role.
Of course, it's our personal taste or choice whether we like something or not. But I think, it happens when you have more expectations and that thing does'nt appear to be so good...
Oops, that's a bit harsh....Lage Raho offers you plenty of fun and entertainment. Well, if you are looking for 'feel good' movies, then Bollywood is not the place :)
I think what Amit said is correct. I expected a lot and I couldn't get that.
And also as sunder said it also depends of the actor who plays the role.(Doesn't mean to say that Sanjay Dutt is a bad actor)
LRM is an awesome movie,it's very strange that you did not like it.
LRM, RDB are the kind of movies that should be made
Well, you are not the only one. I sleep through most of desi movies...however there's one movie that I really liked after a long time - "Mein, Meri patni, aur woh" with Rajpal Yadav and I thought was very well made. There's another movie I saw recently called "Comedy in Muslim world"..it's not a mainstream movie and you probably won't find it in India. but its about a comedian that gets hired by CIA to go to India and Pakistan and find out what makes people laugh there. and it's just funny :)
All right dudes.well it sure aint no good practsing Gandhigiri out on da streets nowadas...lest u wana get ur ass beaten to pulp.that is.munnabhaai was a commercial venture thats it...and All u sanjay Dutt fans out there u suck as does ur idol wht the hell he thinks he was gonna do with those ak-56s yaa mebbe point 'em at his girl and scare her....these ppl jes work themselves no one else nd deserve no admiration/adulation...etc...only worthless pieces of punk can worship these stoopid freaks...it was jes a movie...4ge bout it...as 4 Gandhigiri and all the hooplah...at the first place british never ran away...they jes found it worthless hanging on ..with little divide and rule ..shit that works very very efficiently even today
"But lo behold, everybody and their mother in law are going ga ga over the movie!"...
this made me laugh... the way movie did n thats what I liked about the movie and your posts
I liked it because I was in splits all through the movie.
check out http://www.gandhigiri.org . This movie is getting big. But Gaurav, don't get perturbed :-)
GBBBBBBBBBB!!!!
unfortunately i disagree with you on this one GB. i loved the movie. it reminded me of movies like golmal and khubsoorat that were simple and entertaining.
But I still think you are the best even though ur taste seems to have deterioted. Actually i think u never had a good one ... isi liye to ;)

I suffer from similar feelings when they say A.R.Rahman is great. I think Nadeem-Shravan is much better than A.R.Rahman
Well, Somehow I didnât like RDB that much as I found there were few loopholes, fine it was a good film but not great.
But Lage raho ⦠has a different cool concept, it is not at all about gadhivadi, Itâs more about getting things done means getting things done. Offcourse without bit of comedy, little bit overdoes it would not look good and thatâs the very own characteristics of any film.
Still, if talk about real life just after 2 weeks of film releasing a incident happen in Lucknow where people handled the things through gandhigiri. Atleast itâs not so stupid concept.
Havent seen it myself. MBhai 1 was more timepass than anything else.
Was Forrest Gump feel good? It is a fascinating commentary on rebel and trigger-happy america, through the eyes of a simpleton. Absolutely brilliant piece of work.
I watched Munna BhaiI after a long time of its release. Everybody was talking about it so much that I started expecting something a lot better. I found the movie just ok.
I feel Munna BhaiII was good, worth watching once. Like all hindi movies, u don't have to reason while watching it. Just relax and enjoy madi!!
Your post helps me survive the social pressure .. awww!! you haven't yet watched "munna bhai -II"? .. I havent and after reading your post I won't!!

howcome u didnt liked the movie.....it was a nice movie but the first one was much better.
watch it again....i m sure u didnt went with the right person ;)
I didnt like Munnabhai MBBS to that an extent.. it was just ok.. nothing I would spend money on in a hall :p, watch at home types.. the same goes for LRMB too.. it's just "ok"..yes it has a feel good factor coz it at least tries to make people think about their own actions/behaviour.. and at the end of the day, who wouldnt like to claim that they are in the process of "continuous improvement", so even if it is from movies or magazines, instead of self help bestsellers, why not.
The comedy element IMHO was there, but not that great. Mostly slapstick...and Gandhigiri IMHO is quite a gunda term for something that is supposed to be actually highly respected :p.
