structured blogging: adding method to madness
The much blogged about service Edgeio launched today. Edgeio lets bloggers post their classified ads directly to the Edgeio website by tagging their posts with the keyword "listing". So basically Edgeio is a classifieds aggregator. I am not very convinced about this idea thus far. Classified ads, by definition, need fine classification to be relevant and easily discoverable. I need to be able to say what I am selling, for what price (and currency), what model, till what date is my ad valid etc. This is important because otherwise people can't search on these criteria. I doubt that can be achieved with plain old text blog posts that Edgeio is harvesting right now.
This is a problem that has been given considerable thought and in fact this is at the core of the whole philosophy of the "semantic web". Web 2.0 is supposed to be structured and machine readable. Blogs and RSS syndication was the first step in that direction. When you make a blog post, your RSS feed gets updated and hence in a way, your blog becomes machine readable. That is why sites like Technorati can know exactly when and what you blogged. And that is as far as services like Edgeio can get to today. But suppose you posted a review of a restaurant you went to, or a movie you watched, how do you let Technorati know that it is a review? And more specifically, a review of a movie which you rated 3 on a scale of 5? For a machine, it is all just plain text. So as far as a dumb machine (and they all are) is concerned, a blog post is no different from a movie review is no different from a classified ad.
Structured Blogging is an attempt to solve this problem. The basic approach is to allow the user to specify what type of content they are posting (review, event, blogpost, video, audio etc) and then based on the type of content, let them specify more specific "metadata". The input data is then published as XML (using well defined schemas) as well as embedded (well defined) XHTML. Since the format is pre-defined, the content is machine readable.
While this might sound like lot of geek talk, wide adoption of structured blogging will have huge implications. Applications like Edgeio will be able to provide much better user experience. Search engines will become smarter at answering queries like "show me all events related to XML happening in Gurgaon between this and this date". There will be services which will aggregate specific user generated content (as opposed to sites like Technorati which aggregate all types of blogs) like movie reviews or tech. events. The possibilities are endless and I am excited about this next to next generation "web 3.0"!

there is a dearth of good engineering colleges in punjab you are talking about delhi let alone delhi,punjab etc. the dearth is everywhere everyone is taking huge capitation fees for admissions and what they are providing is pure dhakoslaybaji there are no adequate failities bt boasting is done with sheeer pleasure and by including students too.i am a student of daviet(dav instt. of engg and technology),kabir nagar ,jalandhar144008 and i am studying in second year for the whole time i have spend here i got only lots of dhakoslay baji so through this blog i wanna warn all of you dont get into fake claims. i paid huge amount of money to get into and after that i got only lots of drama only .all colleges here in ptu are of substandard nature instead of doing this you can do bsc that is more useful.hope you liked it???

Well I wld like to add to tht ITM Gurgaon thing, being a student of ITM i cn say tht the management SUCKS, they cn charge money for even the spitting in the college ground, I remember a guy being fined 800 bugs for losing a carrom striker!
The placement sucks, excluding computers which manage around 50% placement tht too of peanuts, there isnt a single company opting for Mechanicals, EI students.
God save students from getting into ITM with expectations of a successful life!

1) what is mean valid rank in AIEEE .What is minimum rank so we can get admission in your instute.

Friends,
It is True, ITM is nt a good college if you are looking for placements. Plus the syllabus is outdated as it is affiliated to MDU Univ. If you are getting admision in IP or some other univ, skip ITM.
While taking admission take care of these things:-
1> college - visit the col once and talk to the students there , they will give you the real picture.you cud ask abt the course, syllabus not being outdated(which is there in ITM affi MDU univ). Fee structure, Placements(chk the stream which is getting the highest placement)
2> do a internet search(google) - there will be hundreds of ppl on internet. Stuck in the same situation as you are.
There might be many more things to take care of, whether u r willing to live outstation etc.
And forget ITM if u dnt get adm in ComScEngg coz placements are nearly nil in other streams.

well ....agree wid most people that itm sucks .......if u don't get into comp sc .forget taking up any oder branch.....i hav taken admn in citm faridabad and most of the ex students have spoken highly about its placements and all ....i was earlier thinking of itm but my friends over there told me not to get admitted there .....itm fines people fr just about everything....get admitted intu manav rachna or even bmit sonipat but don't try itm .....

i got 60029 rank in aieee 2008.i have cut short the list now to 2 colleges, itm gurgaon & bharati vidyapeeth pune.i want IT.please someone let me know whether i would get IT in itm on merit basis or not..?
