Sania Mirza on the cover of Time magazine

Sania Mirza is going to be featured on the cover of Time magazine. While I admire her immensely I have only this much to say: too much, too soon. World ranking of 34 and one WTA title is no great shakes in world tennis. Sure its unprecedented in Indian sports history but when one competes in the world arena, they must be compared at the same level. I wish media would give Sania time to achieve much more before putting her on a pedestal.

I completely agree with you on this. Media has placed her on the highest summit of attention. She still has a long way to go in world tennis. Hope she sustains herself in the long run.

I am in accordance with your views on the excess amount of attention being bestowed on Sania Mirza. She is still young and comparatively inexperienced. This attention also creates undue pressure on her to win every match she plays. There is every chance of her ranking slipping out of the top hundred even, if she is not able to handle the pressure later or if she gets injured.

I am the guy who suggested you become a writer, maybe a writer AS WELL. Then I realized that you ARE a writer. But a blog is still not full-fledged writing. "Off the top of one's head" commentary is just that. But judging from your business commitments, I don't know if you will find the time to write. You know, I read a book called Passport Photos by an Indian professor of English teaching in the US. I believe his name is Amitabh Prasad. It is a book that read like blogs, but the point is that it works as one entity called a book. That's writing. Take care, and work hard. Hard work never hurt anyone!
