Oh the irony!

Bangalore is known as the silicon valley of India. This is the city that has been hailed as the face of modern India, of India's resurgence, of India's imminent global domination. This is also the city that has been blamed for stealing American jobs by providing cheap labor and unfair competitive advantage to Indian software companies. So, you would think that the Karnataka government (the state of which Bangalore is the capital) would be the last to embrace any sort of protectionist policies. After all, free trade has been the main reason for the states recent prosperity. And yet, a few months back, the state government imposed a 7 week moratorium on the release of non-Kannada films (Kannada is the local language of Karnataka) in the state. The move was aimed at providing incentives to the local film industry. Apart from the obvious flaw in this approach (people wont watch a bad kannada movie just because there is no better non-kannada movie playing), it is ironic that the Karnataka govt. resorted to such blatant protectionism.

Yes this is a real Pity!! Infact all it has done is encourage piracy and illegal copies of newly released movies to circulate around Bangalore. I certainly feel that the central government and the supreme court should over rule this moratorium. Did someone say the mumbai film industry too..

I remember something similar happened in Karnataka about 10 years back in the name of promoting Kannada movies. The move flopped right away. I heard the Kannada movies in the 70's used to be real good but the new Kannada movies are absolutely pathetic and I really wonder why people need to waste money to make such movies. Even the actors in a Kannada movie seem to be people picked up right from a slum with some talcum powder slapped on their face.

lake powell

Karnataka has less population who talk kannada even though it's a regional language. Other factors which influence this state is immigration of north indians, tamilians other linguistic crowd at bangalore for job opportunities.

These people who landed up are neither ready to speak to help the drowing kannada industry nor infracture.(Bangalore is full, get out!!!)

people why don't you understand we have districts who speak their languages like "Kodava", "Tulu", "kokani". till the time govt increase the tax of non - kannada language they can't help this small kannada film industry.

Please stop commenting about looks of actors - six pack ab wont prove good.
